State Trial Courts - First Circuit

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The First Circuit Court, Twentieth Judicial District, State of Tennessee is now taking applications for a Term Law Clerk. This is a full-time position with a two-year term to begin August 15, 2024.

The primary duties of this position are legal research and writing, and a strong proficiency in both is necessary. Other duties may include administrative matters. Experience in trial procedure and litigation is not required but is preferred.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Doctor of Jurisprudence, or a law school student attending night school and in their final year.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

Legal research, writing, analysis, and decision-making. Legal principles, including civil, constitutional, and administrative law. Administrative functions of the justice system. Trial procedure and rules of evidence. Interpret and apply substantive and procedural law and rules to specific cases. Present statements of fact, law, and argument clearly and logically. Analyze cases and make legal decisions. Deal courteously with the public and other court staff. Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
