Position Description: Summer Judicial Clerkship, Honorable Chancellor Ben Dean
Chancery Court Judge 19th Judicial District (Montgomery and Robertson Counties/Clarksville TN/Springfield, TN)
Dates: (10 weeks – Summer 2024 with flexibility as to start and end dates)
Requirements:
-Must be a minimum 2L/Second Year Law Student at the time of application.
– Must be in top 50% of class or otherwise demonstrate excellence in research, analysis and writing.
– Applicant should submit at least one writing sample with their application in .pdf format.
– Letters of recommendation recommended but not required.
-Preference to be given to applicants who reside in or are from the 19th Judicial District (Robertson or Montgomery Counties).
-Location would be primarily at Montgomery County Complex in Clarksville and one day a week at the Historic Courthouse in Springfield with some days off and flexible hours/schedule.
-Duties include assisting the Court and Court’s judicial assistant with case management, legal research and drafting (orders, memorandum opinions, summary judgment orders) as well as opportunity to observe Court in session 3 to 4 days a week. This judgeship focuses on several areas of law including family law, probate and commercial/contract law. There is no criminal law exposure in this clerkship. There may also be opportunities to assist other judges in the judicial district during the clerkship.

Pay/Compensation: This is an unpaid judicial clerkship. Housing, transportation, room and board will not be provided. The only compensation will be the legal knowledge and insight gained during the clerkship, as well as the networking opportunities the clerkship will present.
