- Small Estates are Great! (1.5 credits) – In Tennessee, the Small Estates Act provides a simple and efficient way to administer estates containing personal property valued less than $25,000 by filing a small estates affidavit. This program will discuss the administration of small estates and the completion and use of the small estates affidavit and will also provide practice tips for administering small estates.
- Seven Common Mistakes Attorneys Make In Probate Court (1.5 credits) – Probate proceedings are unlike other civil proceedings. They are used to make sure that a deceased person’s creditors are paid and to distribute the remainder of the deceased’s estate. If the deceased died with a valid will, the distribution will be made in accordance with the deceased’s will. If the deceased died without a valid will, the distribution will be made in accordance with statutes governing intestate succession. Probate proceedings can be anything but simple depending on the size and complexity of the estate and the relationships among the affected parties. This presentation will describe common and potentially costly mistakes made during the probate process and will suggest strategies to avoid these mistakes or mitigate them when they occur.
